In this article you will learn what critical thinking is and how to achieve it with the 12 rene descartes rules.
On the entrepreneurial path it is normal to have a million things on your mind. With so much information available it is difficult to think critically to know what to think; what to believe, what to learn; or who to follow in order to materialize our ideas and develop ourselves. In conclusion, it is normal not to know where to start.
In search of a solution to this problem, countless thinkers like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Marx, Freud, and others; They have contributed from their areas of knowledge to guide us towards a better way of thinking.
That is why at ModoEmprendedor we took on the task of delving into the past and making use of the knowledge of the father of analytical geometry and modern philosophy: René Descartes.
Who was Descartes?
René Descartes was born in France in 1596 and his legacy is part of the foundations for the development of humanity.
Despite wishing to remain anonymous, his invaluable writings introduced him to the world as a scholar. One of them was Rules for the direction of the mindwhere he sought to direct the knowledge of man in the search for truth.
This writing was published posthumously 34 years after his departure and of the 21 rules that he wrote, 9 are directed to mathematics.
So here we leave you 12 rene descartes rules to direct the mind towards critical thinking and find the truth.
René Descartes’ 12 Rules to achieve critical thinking.
1. The aim of our studies should be in the direction of our mind, so that it can form firm and true judgments in any matter.
two. We must occupy ourselves only with those objects that our intellectual capacities seem to be competent, without a doubt and without a doubt.
3. As to whatever subject we propose to inquire into, we must not inquire into what others have thought, nor into what we ourselves think; if not on what we can clearly perceive by intuition or deduce with certainty; because there is no other way to acquire knowledge.
Four. There is a need for a method to discover the truth.
5. Method it consists in its totality, in the order and disposition of the objects towards which our mental vision must be directed if we want to find any truth.
We are going to comply exactly if, step by step, we reduce the implied and obscure propositions to those that are simpler; and then starting from the intuitive apprehension of those that are absolutely simple, try to ascend to the knowledge of all the others by similar steps.

6. In order to separate what is quite simple from what is complex and organize them in a methodical way, we should determine intervals: greater, less or equal and thus separate them.
7. If we want our science to be complete, we must go through in a continuous and uninterrupted movement of thought each and every one of the things that concern our purpose; and encompass them in an adequate and methodical enumeration.
8. If in the matters to be examined we reach a step where our understanding is not sufficiently capable of intuitive knowledge, we must stop there. No attempt needs to be made to examine what follows; therefore we are going to save ourselves the superfluous work.
9. We must give all our attention to the most insignificant and most easily learned facts, and remain long in contemplation of them until we are accustomed to behold the truth clearly and distinctly.
10. In order that the mind may acquire sagacity, it must be exercised only in the search for those questions whose solution has already been found by others; and that you must go through in a systematic way. Even the most insignificant of the inventions of men, especially those that explain the order.
eleven. If, after having intuitively recognized a series of simple truths, we wish to draw conclusions, it is useful to proceed in a continuous and uninterrupted act of thought to reflect on their relationships to one another.
This is a way of making our knowledge much more accurate and of greatly increasing the power of the mind.
12. Lastly, we must employ all the aids of understanding, imagination, sense, and memory; in order to have a different intuition of simple propositions, and partly also, in order to compare them.
Conclusion.
René Descartes’s rules seek that we can find the truth correctly. Although it is true that some rules are not so easy to understand at first glance; with a little review they become more and more clear.
