In the following article, Tom Corley tells us how to reprogram your brain to replace bad thoughts with good and positive ideas.
We actually have two brains: the new brain (neocortex) and the old brain (Limbic System).
The New Brain has only been around for a few hundred thousand years. From a human evolutionary perspective, the New Brain is relatively new. It is the executive director of the brain and houses our logical and cognitive functions. Some refer to it as the conscious brain.
The old brain has been around for millions of years. From an evolutionary perspective, the old brain is very old. It houses all of our emotions and controls autonomic functions of the body, such as keeping our organs functioning properly without the need to think.
It is also responsible for controlling our immune system and performing numerous cleansing functions. Some refer to it as the subconscious brain.
Because our old brain, our emotional brain, has been around so much longer than our new brain, it is infinitely more powerful than our new brain. Unfortunately this is a double edged sword.
If a person was raised in a negative environment or programmed at a young age with negative emotions, then their emotional brain becomes their enemy. He will control his entire life with negative emotions (anger, envy, resentment, jealousy, etc.) that destroy relationships.
When a human being grows up in these conditions their brain will tell them to quit when the going gets tough, force them into a scarcity mentality using envy and jealousy as tools, and demand instant gratification at every opportunity. He will constantly blame external factors for his circumstances instead of looking at himself. That’s why you need to know how to reprogram your brain.
How to reprogram your brain.
When your emotional brain is filled with negative emotions, you have very little chance of success in life. You will fail, due to the unhappiness that life’s obstacles will cause you.
However, we are very lucky. We have the new brain that comes to the rescue.
The new brain can be put into action to help reprogram the emotional brain by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. This is not difficult at all. It’s just a three step process.
The first part part of the process is to participate in something I call dream shaping. The idea in this first step is that you clearly define what your ideal life is. What do you want in the next 5 years? If you start with the ending in mind, it will be easier to set up your brain for success.
The second part it is expressing gratitude every day for the things you have. Gratitude is the gateway to optimism and a positive mindset.
The third part is to create daily affirmations around new beliefs that you would like to have. Examples: “I believe I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it”, “I will lose 30 pounds by date X”, “I love to exercise”.
Personalize your affirmations to reflect the ideal future person you want to be.
These affirmations are programmed into the old brain as if they were goals to be pursued. The old brain loves habits, so if you turn these goals and affirmations into habits, you will set your head up to perform certain actions.
As long as you keep repeating these affirmations, the old brain will keep pushing you.
As soon as you begin to master your old brain, you will immediately begin to produce positive emotions and suppress negative ones. It’s automatic. Staying positive is the key!

Conclusion.
Our brain is easily influenced by our life experiences, however this does not mean that you cannot know how to reprogram your brain.
Remember that the old brain will always try to dominate the new one, clouding your decisions and inclining you to choose the easiest options, which as you know are not always the best.
Visualize your future, set clear and achievable goals that you can measure. Be thankful for what you have today and for the opportunities that await you. Finally, fill your mind with positive expressions that become a lifestyle.
