When the idea of starting a business comes to mind, many people feel insecure about their knowledge and think that they need a university degree to achieve their goal. Some even think that they do not have enough experience so they decide to stay at their jobs to acquire it.

There are many examples that prove the opposite. We know of the cases of two of the richest men in the world, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, who abandoned their university degrees at the age of 20 to create Microsoft and Facebook, respectively. If you want more examples check out the infographic below taken from the Founders and Founders portal.
This shows that there is no direct relationship between business success and college degrees. On the contrary, success is built by the mixture of other elements that are not taught in the classroom.
3 business lessons you won’t learn in any university:
1. Success does not come overnight.
We know the stories of Google, Uber, Facebook or WhatsApp and we think that if we create a company we will have an ATM giving us money after a couple of days. What we don’t know is that when the media breaks the stories of these companies, all the hard work is over, we only see the results and so we expect the same. In fact, companies like LinkedIn or Amazon took many years to turn a profit.
“It can take you 10 or 20 years to find overnight success”
If you want to have a company that truly has meaning, endures over time, and really helps solve problems, be prepared for a long journey. Patience and persistence are great virtues of the entrepreneur.

2. You need to always be ready for change.
The dynamism of the markets has gradually increased over the years. In fact, the world has evolved much more in the last two decades than during the previous 100 years, thanks to technological advances.
The strategies that work today may be obsolete tomorrow and that is where the entrepreneur can take advantage, anticipating changes and quickly adapting to customer demands.
In an economic crisis where many would think that it is not viable to start a company, new companies have emerged, such as CardCash, a company that found an opportunity buying and reselling gift cards with discount prices lower than the original. A $100 iTunes gift card is available for $95 on their website, all this began in 2008 in the midst of the economic crisis.
3. Time is of the essence of everything.
As you well know, time is a limited commodity and everything that a person achieved at 30, now they achieve at 20, so don’t waste it. Don’t wait for opportunities to appear, go find them, work for them, if you don’t know something, don’t stop, learn it, look for a mentor, read, never stop educating yourself, time is your most important asset.
