What makes you get up every day from bed? (My legs, going to the bathroom and “I’m hungry” are very good answers but we’re going to go further) In many people the answer is: money.
It is clear that neither the bills, nor the study of our children, nor the food are paid alone; we need to generate income and the way to do it is by working. And in the vast majority of cases, working days begin shortly after sunrise. So when we just woke up, the first thought that keeps us from sleeping is our salary.
It’s not a very difficult conclusion to draw, but what if we’re being very simplistic? Although many do not believe, there are people who work simply by vocation without caring about money; an example of this is volunteering for various causes. At this point both sides of the scale have weight; money and vocation. Which weighs more? Fighting for which one will we reach our dreams faster?
Dan Ariely found his answer after running some experiments. Dan is a professor of psychology and economic behavior at Duke University. He is also the author of 2 bestsellers and founder of the Center for Advanced Retrospective
