Think about how you think.
Specifically, examine your self-image and if you are putting a limit to the level of success that you are achieving.
In 1960 a plastic surgeon, Dr Maxwell Maltz, published a book that was a breakthrough at the time: ‘Psycho Cybernetics’.
Maltz was a plastic surgeon and noted that many people’s problems with their appearance were just indications of how they thought about themselves on the inside.
From this discovery came a boom in self-image studies in psychology; which still prevails today.
Why the image we have of ourselves affects our success.
1. You have an image of yourself.
two. You usually perform according to that self-image.
3. If you start performing above that self-image level, you will unconsciously sabotage yourself and return to the self-image level.
Four. Similarly, if you perform below the level of the self-image you have of yourself, you will begin to take actions to return to the results of the person you think you are.
5. Therefore, the secret to achieve better results of success, is to create a better image of ourselves.
How can we apply this to business?
Well, Maltz was suggesting that if you want to achieve much more, you should do two things:
- First of all, you must design a new image of yourself. (For example, more driven, more focused, more confident, more organized, bolder, better learner, unstoppable, etc.)
- Second, you must practice “mentally seeing yourself” as that person; over and over again, every day.
Some may view this technique as dubious, but it is precisely the method that forms the basis of current sports psychology training.
The same mental training that has been shown in countless research studies to dramatically improve the performances of many athletes.

So if you feel stuck, give yourself a chance. Develop a new version of you: with the traits of the person you would like to be.
Then twice a day, morning and night, spend 5 minutes imagining yourself to be that person. See it and feel it as if it were reality.
If you do it conscientiously for a month, it is very likely that you will be amazed at how it has improved your performance and your results. Almost like magic.
There’s a reason Dr. Maltz’s book is still in print 57 years later:
