In the following article you will know some advice from warren buffett that will help you excel both in your personal and professional life.
Surely you have heard of Warren Buffett. If you don’t know him, he is one of the most recognized entrepreneurs and investors of all time. For several years, he has remained on the list of the 10 richest men in the world.
For more than 50 years, he has been consistent in his good investment decisions, to the point of becoming a role model for many entrepreneurs and being called the oracle of Omaha.
Advice from Warren Buffett.
Buffett is the CEO and largest shareholder of the Berkshire Hathaway company, which since 1965 has grown consistently, making it one of the most important business conglomerates in the world. At 90 years old, his experience is invaluable and that is why we want to share with you 10 tips from Warren Buffett. Meet them below.
1. Surround yourself with the best.
Most of Warren Buffett’s advice stems from common sense, and the first is… choose your friends wisely.
One of the best things you can do to be a better version of yourself is to surround yourself with people who are better than you. That is, people with more experience or who have traveled the path that you want to travel.
If you are close to these people you will start to act and think like them.
“You will move in the direction of the people you associate with. That’s why it’s important to associate with people who are better than you. The friends you have will shape you throughout your life.”
2. Develop your communication skills.
Buffett is emphatic on the importance of having excellent verbal and written skills. More than your technical knowledge and skills, it is important to have the ability to communicate your ideas and clearly explain what you know.
Theory can only get you so far, to go further you will need to have the power to communicate your thoughts and develop social skills connect you with the right people.
“If you can’t communicate, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark: nothing will happen. You can have all the intellectual capacity in the world, but you must be able to transmit it”
3. Learn from the mistakes of others.
Another of Warren Buffett’s great tips is to study and become an expert in the art of failure. This includes studying the failures of others.
The more you learn about obstacles others have faced, the more likely you are to avoid them.
There is little progress without failure. And surely successful people would not have gotten where they are if it weren’t for their failures. Embrace them and learn from them. If you don’t mess up once in a while, you’re not trying hard enough.
Find someone to follow, someone who can be a guide, someone who can show you what to do and what NOT to do. That could save you a lot of headaches.
4. Start as soon as you can.
It is never too early to start something. The sooner you start, the faster you will get experience and results. So stop putting off that idea you have in mind. Let’s do it.
It will never be the perfect time and you will always find excuses. Don’t let this happen, if you want something go for it.
Many people think that they need more free time. However, this whole Covid 19 situation has shown us that even if we have a lot of free time, we don’t take advantage of it.
“If I had to do it again, I would have done the same thing but before.”
5. Learn something new every day.
Buffett claims that part of his success is due to his hunger for knowledge. You need to accumulate knowledge and the best way to do that is by reading as much as you can and learning something new every day.
Buffett is known to spend 80 percent of his daily routine reading. He checks the newspapers in the morning and reads books during the day. Maybe you are very busy and can’t afford to do this, but if you have a goal, spend some time to get it done. Do something to make progress every day, even if it’s something small. The goal of the Buffett Formula is to do what you can to improve your life on a daily basis.
Go to bed a little smarter than when you woke up. Read everything you can. Learn from those around you. Be a sponge. Everything is a lesson.
6. Think big.
At the age of 20, Buffet told his wife that one day they would be incredibly rich. He wasn’t exactly sure when, but he was sure it was going to happen. He told her to get ready and think about what he would do with a large amount of money. Today Buffett is one of the richest men in the world.
Visualize what you want for your life. It does not necessarily have to be having a lot of money. Thinking big is different for everyone. The important thing is to have a goal, an objective towards the future for which to work. Give yourself something inspiring to build on.
7. Having a purpose is the best compensation.
At the end of the month, the salary is a reward for the time and effort you have made with your work. That’s just fair compensation for what you do. However, satisfaction and loyalty come from the autonomy to do the work that matters to you, not from a salary or bonus.
It gives people the autonomy and confidence to do the things they are good at, the things that are part of their purpose. Avoid micromanagement as much as possible. Make the tools available to them and allow them to determine how they will use them.
8. Combine time and perseverance toward something you firmly believe in.
For Buffett, this is the formula for great things. Find what you are good at, something that becomes your life purpose and dedicate yourself to working for it. Nothing worthwhile will happen overnight, so timing and consistency will be key to achieving whatever you have in mind.
Almost anything can be done with the right focus, time, and consistency. As long as you care enough and you’re not in too much of a hurry. Be patient and trust yourself.
9. Learn to say No
Buffett has long learned that the most important asset of all is time. And as such we must take care of it and use it wisely.
Every day you will have distractions, invitations, plans, etc… which will cover spaces that perhaps you could take better advantage of.
As entrepreneurs, we have to know what to aim for to simplify our lives. It means saying no over and over again to things that don’t go in the direction of our goals. It’s the only way to stay focused on what really matters.
The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.
10. Never expect people to change.
In business and in life, Buffett advises that whenever you establish a new relationship, make sure it’s the right one for you. The way a person acts or the way a company works is out of our control, so don’t expect everything to change or improve over time. If from the beginning you perceive something that goes against your principles or goes beyond what you need, don’t waste your time.
